After breakfast Proceed for the Jeep SAFARI to the famous Minneriya national Park.
Habarana is famous among tourists and locals alike because of the safari rides to the nearby Habarana national park which has a huge population of Elephants. Another reason it is very popular among tourists is because of the luxurious nature friendly hotels in Habarana. Habarana is full of Elephants and this is one of the best places to go on Elephant back rides as well. Another important thing about Habarana is its unique location, it is very near to two world heritages sites (Sigiriya and Dambulla rock temple), two other world heritages sites (Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa) are only one hour’s drive and there are quite a few National parks near as well. So it’s a great location for history lovers and nature lovers. The Elephant population in the nearby national parks is not that used to humans and there are frequent.
Minneriya National park is a National Park in North central province of Sri Lanka. After being originally declared as a wild life sanctuary in 1938 this National park and the area was designated as a National park in 1997. The Minneriya Tank which is an historical site was built by King Mahesan in 3 Century AD. This park is known to be situated in the dry zone of Sri Lanka and very well known for Wild Elephants which takes the center point in this park. The National Park’s faunal species include 24 Species of Mammals, 160 Species of Birds, 9 Species of Amphibians, 25 Species of reptiles, 26 species of Fish and 75 Species of butterflies. The Individual elephant gatherings in this are huge at times and it is known as high as 700 Elephants gather at one time as the Minneriya tank contributes to sustain a large herd of elephants. Many tourists like to visit Minneriya during the dry season largely because of the elephants. Unlike in the other National Parks of Sri Lanka, Elephants in Minneriya Park are more aggressive and time to time it’s been heard about the Human elephant encounters and the villages in the vicinity do face many threats. The area is also part of Minneriya-Giritale Nature Reserve which declared in four stages from 1988 to 1997. Day 11 :Sightseeing from the Beach resort
After breakfast proceed for sightseeing in and around Bentota.
One of the popular is the Maduganga river safari which goes along the Maduganga River in Balapitiya “Ma Duwa” to Balapitiya and it is wide enough to travel in a 3 wheeler. But it is a great creation and it is the longest bridge I have seen in Sri Lanka. Madu Ganga has high ecological, biological and aesthetic significance, being home to 303 species of plants belonging to 95 families and to 248 species of vertebrate animals. It might be one of the last remaining tracts of pristine mangrove forests in Sri Lanka. We also visited the Kothduwa temple, or KothDuwa Raja MahaViharaya located on Kothduwa Island on the Maduganga River. It is a unique experience and monks use boats for transportation. As we heard The Buddhist AmarapuraNikaya sect had its first Uasampada (Higher ordination ceremony) on a fleet of boats anchored upon it in 1803.The beaches of Bentota are unspoiled and it is possible to wander for miles along pristine stretches of sand with only the roar of the surf to disturb you, but beware of the tropical sun which can be deceivingly strong even on a cloudy day, also visit to the famous turtle farm in Kosgoda. Kosgoda is famous for its turtle hatchery- operated by the Wild Life Protection Society of Sri Lanka. It was established in 1981 to protect Sri Lanka's turtles from extinction. The hatchery pays fishermen for eggs that they collect at night along the sandy beach. Visitors can see huge tanks filled with new born turtle hatchlings. After being fed, the baby turtles are taken to the sea and released when they are 2-4 days old, usually during the safer hours of darkness. Although October to April is the main laying season, some eggs can be found at Kosgoda throughout the year. Bentota is also known for the famous Moonstone mines as moonstones were used as jewelry for many centuries including the ancient civilizations starting from Romans to Greek and then French.
Balapitiya river boat safari
There are two places you can take a river safari in the general area of South West Sri Lanka. We chose Balapitiya and the Madu Ganga (with Ganga Meaning River in the local language) over Bentota and the river that ends up there. Despite tours from Balapitya being more expensive and nature being about the same as only a few kilometers separate the two, apparently the Madu Ganga river boat safaris are better to Benota's as the islands you get to visit are more interesting and the trips longer.
A bridge spans the mouth of the river and we noticed signs for a few operators offering boat rides. Our driver choice for our safari was GangabadaAsiriya. The place was a little cheesy with a fake "Pizza Hut" sign and a swimming pool. A bearded captain in a khaki uniform and naval hat greeted us and as two large groups, one Sri Lankan and a family were already waiting their turn to board, we sat under the shade of trees until the dock cleared. Ten minutes and 6000 Rupees later we boarded our boat and headed upstream on the placid waters of Madu Ganga.
The start of our journey was rather uninspiring with noxious fumes from the many outboard engines filling the air and garbage flowing about us. Our boatman, a likeable young man of about 20 years old, seemed confident in commanding the boat and we noticed with satisfaction that life jackets were on board. Within a few minutes the beauty of the area is revealed before our eyes and the first. Not so inspiring, impression is quickly forgotten. On the river shores a million shades of green are only interrupted by the presence of birds. Colorful king fisher’s pose patiently before our cameras and eagles soar high above us. We take a detour through a patch of mangrove trees that form a cave, barely big enough to fit our boat. We might not be able to see many wild animals but the water monitors we spot are the size of small alligators and you can easily make a mistake in identifying them, especially when they glide through the water. What's more the unusual sight of sweet water jelly fish with their eerily transparent body makes us wonder what else might live in these waters. Return back to the booked

Today, as Arcade - Independence Square is unveiled; an iconic landmark is added to Sri Lanka’s spectacular landscape. We proudly welcome this phenomenon as a new beginning. A beacon of hope for new Sri Lanka
The inspiration for these iconic creations stemmed from the desire to create “Expressions of Freedom”, which would present a tangible real-life experience to the multitude of people residing and visiting the capital city of Colombo. Spreading out from the capital, this philosophy of modern city planning and development will embrace the entirety of Sri Lanka, transforming a once ‘island nation’ into one of the most pulsating and dynamic countries in Asia.
As a tropical country blessed with comfortable weather and inviting lush green surroundings, Sri Lanka inherently offers wonderful spaces for good living. The city development plan envisioned under the astute leadership of His Excellency the President, who has articulated the same in the MahindaChinthanaya, and ably implemented under the stewardship of the Secretary to the Ministry of Defense and Urban Development attempts to weave in the main different “green spaces” within cities, in order to uplift the standard of city dwelling.
The beautification and development of the city of Colombo and its surroundings commenced immediately after the end of the war. The Sri Lanka Armed Forces contributed in their numbers and tremendous skill under the direction of the professionals of the Urban Development Authority, and rallied together to systematically refurbish the city’s dilapidated structures
